The LORIOT and Robustel integration provides customers with an off the shelf solution for building LoRaWAN networks at a price/performance ratio that has not previously been available. As a very high-volume manufacturer of 3G/4G routers and gateways, Robustel have commercial advantages unobtainable by many of their peers in the LoRa Gateway market and are consequently able to offer both Indoor & Outdoor Industrial grade, high reliability Gateways at very competitive pricing.
Enhanced features of Robustel’s Gateways such as SMS configuration & status, real-time data usage alerting, remote control of 4G Data interface by SMS & built-in packet sniffer combined with an advanced cloud-based monitoring platform provide significant differentiation in an increasingly busy marketspace.
Smart Roaming – optimising 4G backhaul in LoRa Gateways
Robustel’s LoRaWAN Gateways support ‘SMART Roaming’ which is designed to get the best from Roaming (aka multi-network) SIMs. The gateways can be configured to check for loss of mobile data communications on the current network and force a change to an alternative network within a short period of time. This can save the cost of site visits and provide peace of mind that you have implemented the ‘highest possible reliability’ cellular methodology to make sure the packet forwarder of the Gateway stays in communication with the LORIOT LoRaWAN network server when using 4G backhaul.
SMART Roaming checks not only signal strength but also Ping times and ping completion to build a more complete picture of the current connection. If the health-check is failed, the router will dynamically assess the quality of alternative networks and change to the next best if communications are lost or are of a ‘low quality’.
Smart Roaming is currently in Beta, slated for full release in July 2019.
“The Loriot packet forwarder/gateway software solves some fundamental problems with typical LoRaWAN applications that many users are simply unaware of. This competence combined with a very hands-on approach to solving real-world problems in LoRaWAN implementations will add significant value in Robustel’s partner ecosystem.” Commented David Evans, IoT Solution Architect at Robustel.
State-of-the art LoRaWAN gateway software
The custom gateway software built for the Robustel range of LoRaWAN gateways enhances the LoRaWAN security and specifically the trust of gateways that run on the LORIOT Network Server. Designed for high availability and the guarantee of secure data delivery under all conditions, the software suite ensures a higher quality of service (QoS) to the end-application without missing data points.
The LORIOT Gateway Software is using TCP as the protocol for data delivery, replacing the UDP protocol used in basic packet forwarders, which guarantees reliable delivery of data. It also implements another layer on top of TCP that confirms data delivery to the application layer, handles re-transmissions and is able to identify data that are delivered late (re-transmitted).
LORIOT Gateway Software makes compliance audits easy and requires little to no effort in terms of changing corporate firewalls and proxies. Secure and hassle-free network operation provided out-of-the-box. With strong, industry-standard TLS 1.2 authentication and encryption it guarantees that all gateways connected to the Network Server are authentic, and their connection safe and secure.
With additional monitoring and management tools such as gateway email alerts, message buffering and a reverse SSH tunnel, the LORIOT gateway software suite dramatically reduces time and effort to operate your network of gateways at scale.
Full integration with Robustel’s App Centre and gateway’s operation system RobustOS ensures quick and easy gateway installation/setup, and provisioning gateways at scale has never been so simple.
“Our mission is to enable the IoT everywhere and its disruptive potential available to everyone, but it’s critical that network security is not compromised in the process. By establishing full integration with our hardware partners we can ensure that our combined services provide best-in-class security and quality of service. Integration between the LORIOT Network Server and the Robustel gateways delivers this to our clients without complex installation processes” added Julian Studer, LORIOT Co-Founder & CFO/COO
